Well, they said it would snow, and boy were they right!
I can't remember Eastbourne seeing so much snow in such a short period of time for years.

There were a number of minor accidents around the town, but as far as I know, nothing too serious.

Too much tax

I've never really understood this government's tax regime. But what I do know is that we all pay far too much.

The Government changed the rules this week meaning over 5 million families will be worse off as a result.

If you remember this was announced in Gordon Browns' last budget as chancellor, and comes into effect today. What riles me is that it's announced as an abolishment of the 10p tax threshold.

It's not abolished at all – it's actually doubled, with the equivalent (especially for those who won't be covered with the tax credit system) a 20p starting threshold.

All this is on top of dozens of new taxes, and a doubling of council tax since 1997. No wonder the economy is beginning to crack.

Portsmouth v Cardiff in FA cup final

Who would have thought it possible – Portsmouth v Cardiff in the FA cup final. Quite amazing.

Personally, I can't wait to see the game, and I don't care who wins. This will be far better than another bore draw between 2 of the top 4 teams that normally win everything.

I gather it's the first time in 20 years that one of the 'big four' hasn't made it to the semis.

As a Brighton and Eastbourne fan, It's always bugged me that if you listened to some of the coverage on the radio and TV, you'd think there were only 8 matches going on most Saturday afternoons.

I think it's it brilliant the championship put up such a good showing this year in the cup, it might remind people that there is good football to be seen outside the premiership.

Old Town service station planning application

I hear there is a planning application going in for the garage next to the Prince Albert pub.

Flats and a dental surgery apparently.

I've not seen the plans yet, but the thing to watch out for is if they are suggesting the building should come right up to the road.

Years ago there were buildings right up to the original road, which is why there was the original suggestion that the green opposite the Lamb Inn might not be safe from development.

In planning law this means the original planning line can be considered, rather than the current one, even though decades have passed.

I hope the local council will ensure that doesn't happen, especially as we pulled out all the stops 2 years ago to protect the green further up.

It's no surprise that an application has come in – it's tough making an independent petrol station sustainable these days.

But it's vital we protect this most valuable part of our town from overdevelopment.

Have a good week.
