I love family Christmas films – and my favourites include Miracle of 34th Street, (especially the 1947 version), Elf, and Polar Express.
But without doubt the best Christmas Film of all time is 'It's a Wonderful Life'. In fact this is one of the best films of all time – Christmas or otherwise.

Apparently this film was a complete flop when it came out (in the late 1940's), and was criticised for being over-sentimental – it was also slammed by the FBI as being 'subversive' due to it's statements about post world war two society!

But it's quite simply a beautiful film, and if you haven't seen it – don't waste another year!

It's about a man named George Bailey, (played by James Stewart), who is driven to the brink of suicide by a greedy millionaire, but in an answered prayer, an angel comes down to show him the value of his life.

It goes from despair and tragedy, to self affirment and encouragement. It's quite simply a powerful and beautiful film, showing the value of each individual life.

Despite being nominated for 5 Oscars, it didn't win any – and its popularity really took off 20 years after its premiere – indeed in 2006 it was ranked as the most inspirational film of all time by the prestigious American Film Institute.

I also love The Santa Clause 1 & 2, The Grinch, and Joyeux Noel (the foreign language film about the World War 1 truce in the trenches on Christmas day 1914, when the opposing sides played football together – beautiful).

However, I've heard Fred Claus should be avoided at all costs (but I'll probably take the kids anyway!).

Christmas Trees

Several people have asked me where they should get their Christmas tree this, as, for obvious reasons there are fewer local garden centres to choose from this year!

My recommendation is PJ Skips, on the left just as you get onto the Hailsham dual carriageway (just past Coppell Roundabout).

I picked up a superb one there on Friday, and they had a great selection.

Have a great week everybody!
