I was pleased that Diversity beat Susan Boyle in Britain's Got Talent. Those lads were amazing. Susan Boyle will get her own recording contract with Simon Cowell anyway (it's probably already signed), and could go on as a successful singer for years, like Paul Potts, the original winner.
But Diversity will have a limited shelf life, as in a short while the younger ones will be much bigger and it won't be as easy to be thrown around! They'll also have fewer opportunities to make a fortune (they can't exactly make an album!), so they'll get their well deserved 15 minutes of fame, and good luck to them, I thought they were brilliant, real quality.

FA Cup
I used to love FA cup day. We used to start with a bit of brunch (well, a late fry up), followed by a couple of hours at the pub for a few games of pool or darts, lunch and watch the game with a couple of beers.

Good times. There used to be a whole day of build up with a special Question of Sport for cup final day, and other specials and by the time the game happened you were well up for it.

All you get now is a few talking heads banging on about their own glory days and a repeat of that weeks' goals. What a disappointment.

Mind you one of the highlights still remains; 80,000 people singing 'Abide with me' – it's worth tuning in just for that.

I enjoyed the game, and Chelsea were deserved winners, but I still miss the whole package you used to get. The FA cup has never really been the same since 1983, that's when it reached it's peak. Mind you that could have been because that's when Brighton got to the final!

Cineworld
I love the cinema, and for Christmas last year my wife bought me a year long 'unlimited' ticket, to see as many films as I want. I was delighted with it, and started using it every week.

However, it really frustrates me that some of the best films are not even shown in Eastbourne. In the last few months 'Che' (1 and 2) and 'Milk' (which was an Oscar Winner), have not been shown at all. 'The Damned United', the Brian Clough story, was also not shown, even though they had a massive cardboard cutout/advertising feature in the foyer for weeks!

I asked Cineworld about this, and they said;

"It is Cineworld Strategy to show as many films as possible in as many of our cinemas. However, sometimes it's not always possible due the film distribution or customer demand.

"Firstly, there is a tender process that decides how many prints of a film we get. This is a process between the Distributor and all the Cinemas within the UK. If the Distributor releases a limited amount of prints, this will affect the amount of prints we get and subsequently reduces the amount of Cinemas the film is shown at.

"Secondly there is the commercial consideration. Should a film be a limited release it will be shown at our Cinemas within the UK that has a high customer demand for that particular film type

"Thirdly, if a cinema has a limited number of screens, this will reduce the number of films we are able to screen. As above decisions will be made by the Cinema manager and our film department as to which films they feel will perform best. We apologise for any disappointment caused".

So there you have it. Basically Eastbourne, with its' 90,000 population, and six screens isn't big enough to show the best films. What nonsense. In fact, given where Cineworld is located, over on the Crumbles, it's catchment area includes Bexhill and loads of other places as well.

This teaches me two things: 1) the sooner the Town Centre redevelopment is sorted the better, a new cinema complex will be part of that, and if it's a new build, you can be sure the owners will invest in the town properly by showing a full range of films, (we won't be at the end of the queue when they've spent serious money here), and 2) this all seems like a good reason to stick with the wonderful old 'Curzon' in the Town Centre.

Glastonbury
One of the things I've always wanted to do before I die is go to Glastonbury, and this year seems like a good year to do it. The line up is amazing. I know it's been labelled 'Dad Rock', with the likes of Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen, but I'd live with that – far better than last year. Anyone got any spare tickets?

Have a great week friends, they'll be plenty to talk about next week after the elections! Remember, use your vote!
