Bank Holiday Blues . . .
This week, a bank holiday rant for which I apologise if anyone is offended.
1 – Madge. Did you see those embarrassing pictures of Madonna getting all jiggy with Justin Timberlake.
I could never stand Madge – even in the 80's all that gyrating around in a conical bra made me heave. But now, in her 50th year, it makes me cringe. It's not as though her music has ever been any good.
2 – Champions League Final. I'm looking forward to the big final with, for the first time two English teams involved. But wouldn't it be sensible to transfer the champion's league final to Wembley, rather than taking 40,000 fans thousands of miles to Moscow, having to sort out visas, spending hundreds to stay in a hotel etc. Imagine the carbon footprint of that game!
3 - Listening but not hearing. In Gordon Browns speech when he became Prime Minister, he said he would, listen, learn and lead. After he got the worst election results in 40 years last Thursday, he has said he will, er, listen, learn and lead. Why should we believe him this time?
4 – Elvis. So Elvis came to London in 1958? I doubt it. Every move Elvis made in 1958 was scrutinised. We would have known before now. Everyone knows he only stepped a few paces in Scotland whilst changing planes, apart from that he never entered these shores.
5 – Find Madeline. I am heartedly sick of people having a go a Gerry and Kate McCann. These poor people have my absolute sympathy. It's devastating what they've been (and are still going) through, and if people cannot be generous to them, they should keep their judgmental mouths shut.
These two people deserve the prayers and thoughts of everyone, as do all the others that are going through similar pain in a less high profile way, and their status of arguidos (i.e. suspects) should be removed immediately.
6 – Boris will be a superb Mayor of London
7 – Mayor of Eastbourne. So Greg Szanto will be Mayor this year. He's been a councillor for one (yes, just one) year. This means the Mayor of Eastbourne and the Deputy Mayor (Harun Miah) will have a sum total of just two years service on the council before representing us all at the highest civic level.
I'm sure these two are good people (I wouldn't know, they weren't even on the council when I was just a year ago), but I cannot understand why long servants of the libdem group on the council, such as Mike Thompson, who has been a councillor for years, a cabinet member and generally a decent bloke – why isn't he Mayor?
That's enough ranting.
Hope you had a great bank holiday.
