Playing Dead opens season of thrillers
GET ready for an emotional rollercoaster as Eastbourne’s season of thrillers kicks off with a brand new whodunnit!
Playing Dead comes to the Devonshire Park Theatre from June 5-9.
This new thriller by Brighton-based TV writer Philip Gladwin, best known for TV’s Trial and Tribulation, opens the Murder At The Park season this June.
When he was 16, John Dean slammed out of the school gates, glad to be free of the bullies that ruled his school years.
Thirty years later, he goes to a school reunion looking for the chance to show everyone how he’s changed.
But when he gets locked in the school gym with a handful of his old enemies, the mood turns dark as they talk about the old days.
The last summer they were at school, John’s girlfriend Susannah died in a house fire, an event from which John has never recovered.
Over the course of this one evening it becomes increasingly apparent that the people with John were more involved in the night of her death than he ever suspected.
As he finally works out the terrible truth about how Susannah died, John is forced to answer the horrifying question – what is he going to do about it?
Starring Stephen Beckett (The Bill, Coronation Street), Jenny Funnell (As Time Goes By) and Marcus Hutton (Brookside) this brand new thriller, commissioned by Talking Scarlet, takes a fresh look at this genre.
Set in the present day and dealing with contemporary issues, Playing Dead is a gripping ‘modern’ thriller that will leave the audience guessing right up until the final curtain.
Evening performances are at 7.45pm, Wednesday and Saturday matinees at 2.30pm. Tickets cost from £13.50-£18, call 412000.
