Sixties star brought back to life at thrilling concert
Billy Fury tribute
PLAYING the music of Britain’s own Elvis, Michael King and his fantastic musicians come to the Congress Theatre on August 10 (7.30pm) in The Billy Fury Years.
Lip curled and with smouldering sexiness, this musical superstar scored more hit records in the Sixties than The Beatles.
This uncannily accurate tribute show includes Billy’s hits, many which he wrote himself, including: I Will, Halfway To Paradise, It’s Only Make Believe, Like I’ve Never Been Gone, Maybe Tomorrow, Colette and of course A Thousand Stars.
Selling more records for Decca than any other artist – including The Rolling Stones, Billy truly was a megastar who had 28 hit singles between 1958 and 1984 and spent more than 280 weeks in the charts despite never achieving a number one hit!
Twenty-nine years ago British Rock ‘n’ Roll icon Billy Fury died prematurely, after suffering years of ill health which started when he was just a child.
Despite his premature death Fury remains an iconic figure of the British rock‘n’roll scene. Such is his popularity that in 2007 a bronze statue of Billy was unveiled at the Liverpool Albert Dock and more recently in 2011, ‘Billy Fury Way’ was opened in London.
