Folk fans are again in for a treat at The Lamb Folk Club on Wednesday (March 20)h when a collaboration featuring Maggie Boyle, one of the country’s premier traditional singers and Paul Downs, one of the world’s finest acoustic guitarists, guest at the club.
Maggie continues the tradition of music and storytelling passed on by her Irish family and she has accrued an impressive catalogue of live and recorded work, including film soundtracks and theatre and club appearances worldwide.
Among the artists she has worked with are James Horner, The Chieftains and Bert Jansch and her vocals adorned the soundtracks to Patriot Games and Legends of the Fall.
Her latest CD, ‘Won’t You Come Away’, which features guest musicians Steve Tilston and Bellowhead’s Jon Boden, was released last year to great critical acclaim.
Paul effortlessly contributes a dazzling array of acoustic guitar styles which perfectly complement Maggie’s vocals and flute playing.
He also has a rich musical background having progressed through working with Phil Beer, The Arizona Smoke Review, Pete Seeger and The Joyce Gang.
