Summer dreams and those cherished memories of warmth and beauty make up the latest exhibition of original paintings in the Nigel Greaves Gallery behind the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne.
In scenes unveiled from our dreams of summer, Nigel takes us to compositions rich in spirituality. His generous and experienced use of colour and an understanding of light can be seen to bathe scenes in a tranquil unreality that we sometimes wish to be real.
The paintings follow last summer’s study trips where Nigel captured sketches and working drawings that were brought back to his Sussex studio for creation into the new summer exhibition paintings.
A student at Eastbourne College of Art and Design in the Sixties Nigel Greaves studied art history, fine art and graphic design under Robert Tavener and Bob Miller.
In his early days at art college he had no choice but to study the masters but over the years Nigel has gained confidence in his art, working with equal ease in acrylic, watercolour, oil and pastel.
Time, much experimentation and experience gradually led him to a world of new ideas with a fresh use of colour and to seek creativity that could be treasured.
Nigel’s paintings are now in private and public collections all over the world as well as several major corporate institutions.
This latest exhibition runs in tandem with the 2013 retrospective exhibition until September 30.
