WITH The Queen’s Jubilee just weeks away, Looking Back reader Doreen Noble has sent in this lovely photograph of the Queen, before she was crowned, during a visit to Eastbourne.

Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret were visiting the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire in Compton Place and are pictured leaving the church in Carlisle Road on October 25, 1946.

Mrs Noble said, “The two princesses had a happy carefree weekend. You can just see Lady Elizabeth Cavendish coming up the steps behind Princess Margaret.”

Mrs Noble was working at Compton Place at the time of the visit and shook hands with the two princesses. She has also sent in a photograph (far left) of the Duchess of Kent taken in Eastbourne.
