I would just like to thank the Eastbourne Council for its decision to fence off the beach, charge for admission and close the seafront road to traffic for Airbourne this year.
It was great for all those who couldn't afford or were unwilling to pay.
There were no crowds and we were able to get a brilliant view from the road, the best ever, for free. Last year it was so busy, we had to settle for a place further along the beach. Also, because we couldn't get to the stalls and food outlets, we weren't tempted to make impulse purchases like we did before, so saving money that way too.
I felt a bit sorry for the stallholders – probably very few will want to show up next year. I also imagine that holidaymakers may think twice about staying in Eastbourne around Airbourne time with all the extra disruption along the seafront caused by the fencing and security. I guess all the crowds are switching to the Bournemouth and Southend airshows. – Geoff Shearn, South Close, Hailsham.
