In Public Notices, Gazette August 6, East Sussex County Council has laid out its pay-to-park scheme for Eastbourne, which I assume will soon come into force.
I assume because all road markings in town have been re-newed.
In the town centre the restrictions are Monday to Saturday, whilst those areas many visitors use ie the seafront, pay to park is Monday to Sunday, which in my humble opinion proves that
this is a scheme to make money.
Surely if an authority wants to charge you to park (your car) they should provide new car parks.
If they, ESCC and EBC, were really serious about stopping traffic congestion and illegal parking they could have solved that problem years ago by employing traffic wardens.
So what happens to the rest of Eastbourne not included in this revised pay-to-park scheme?
Will the police now patrol these areas?
After all Eastbourne isn't just the town centre and seafront.
Around the town are several one way systems, where no vehicles are allowed to park either side of each road, as this causes inconvenience and tail-backs when a delivery is made or waste is collected.
In Grove Road, for example I've seen traffic piled back as far as The Avenue/Upperton junction. Will a pay-to-park scheme solve this problem? I doubt it. – E R Edwards, Lewes Road, Eastbourne.
