This can't be Eastbourne!
It's supposed to be 'God's waiting room'. Yet here were young people by the thousand on the seafront putting on a fantastic show for everyone of all ages. But it was Eastbourne Extreme. And it was brilliant.
I don't think we have to worry too much
about our town when its future is in the hands of youngsters with such enthusiasm, commitment and sheer joy of life. Heavens, even a wrinklie like me swayed with the music from those great bands who could actually play their instruments and sing at the same time. Wonderful.
Everyone was so happy. There was no aggro. No menace. No rip-offs. Just a great resort doing what we residents always knew it did best: Showing people how to have a good time - and doing it themselves with a glorious sense of style.
Thank you to everyone involved in organising and appearing at Eastbourne Extreme 2008 - absolutely superb.
Nigel Blair, Dene Drive, Willingdon

I would like to start by saying what a well organised and interesting event the Extreme weekend was. The bands, the basketball and the demonstrations were entertaining and vibrant.
I was, however, dismayed to see that the skate park at the Sovereign Centre end of the displays was full of people performing stunts and competitions with no safety gear or helmets in sight.
The Animal Relentless Bike Tour was an amazing show of talented, 'cool', young men which drew a large crowd for each show and they were wearing proper safety headgear at all times.
Why then, was it acceptable for the Eastbourne Skate Association to hold a competition encouraging skaters to skate up a ramp and leap several feet into the air over a pole which was gradually raised higher and higher, without safety helmets or pads. Is this the kind of healthy, safety message we wish the young onlookers to take away with them?
Considering some of the other stipulations regarding health and safety made by the council, I find it alarming that this kind of show was encouraged.

Well done Eastbourne. What a fantastic event Eastbourne Extreme was this year. Every year it gets better and better. Eastbourne council certainly deserves a pat on the back for this year's line-up . The east promanade was alive with action. A big thank you to all involved. Lets have many more Extreme weekends.
