I am utterly dismayed at Wimpey's application to develop about 140 homes at Kings Drive.
I have several reasons of major concern:
1) This area is totally unsuitable for houses, being partly on a flood plain – have no lessons been learnt from the disastrous floods of last year?
2) Have you ever looked over Eastbourne Park from Butts
Brow, Upperton and Rodmill and simply enjoyed the view? How that would be spoilt by yet more development!
3) What about the social infrastructure – schools, play areas, surgeries, dentists, local shops, buses? Will these be included?
4) Most importantly – traffic. The majority of 140 households will have two cars, and in instances where young adults are still living at home, three or four. An extra 250 cars I consider to be a conservative estimate.
Kings Drive, Cross Levels and the roundabout at The DGH are already over-congested. Not only will there be gridlock at certain times, but the dangers of accidents, including pedestrians, cyclists and motor-cyclists (already high) will be compounded.
Has anybody taken into consideration the increase in pollution that will be caused by not only these extra cars but also by the static traffic which will ensue? Then of course there is the impact upon parking within Eastbourne itself, which is already a nightmare.
In addition I wish to mention that I live in Meads and until this month was a member of the David Lloyd Club along Cross Levels Way. A principal reason for relinquishing my membership is the sheer volume of traffic along Kings Drive and Cross Levels, particularly between 3pm and 6pm.
