Angry at French Market stalls
Published Date:

I RECENTLY wandered around the French Market that was positioned on the middle promenade on Eastbourne seafront.
As a local trader I was very distressed to see many of the stalls offering similar, if not identical, goods to that sold in our own local shops by our own local traders.
This made me rather angry and I then started to investigate a little further, finding that at least two of the stalls were from England.
I was also very cross to notice that the very stringent health and safety regulations, that we have to so
strictly adhere, to did not seem to apply to these stalls.
Why when the traders in our own town are suffering due to the current economic conditions are we having to encourage even more competition into our town?
I feel that this type of market is unacceptable and would like to see future markets restricted to cultural French goods which would
complement those offered by our own local townspeople and not directly compete with them on an unfair basis. I would also like to know who pays for cleaning up after this type of market. – Mr Donald, San Juan Court.
