14/05/08: They think they know best

I have just come from a meeting in which Matthew Lock and two associates unveiled the latest, new improved Seaside Bus Lane plan.
It is impressive; a whole minute will be saved, at peak times, which (on an eight-minute journey) represents a a 12.5 per cent improvement. I don't think anyone timed how much longer it will take to walk from the new improved bus stop outside the Kings Arms to the Whitley Road/ Beamsley Road junction as the Seaside rec stop will go, but these are wealthy councillors who don't use buses. That is what made me angry, thinking about it.
Tories have a way of promising everything when they want to get elected, but once in office they will ignore any public opinion and follow their plans blindly.
I never expected them to lose face and admit the Seaside Bus Lane is a joke but I did have the satisfaction of telling them to their face that they should be ashamed of wasting public money in this way.
Despite all the efforts Beryl Healy and her team have made, and are still making, work will start on the bus lane in November this year. The Tories know what's good for us whether we like it or not. Well they think they do. – Les Valder, Whitley Road, Eastbourne.
