As part of the Hope 08 Initiative a prayer walk took place on April 24, beginning at Bishop Bell School and visiting several churches on the east side of Eastbourne, including Christ the King.
Here the participants met with parishioners for tea, coffee and biscuits before assembling in the church to pray for Father Barry, Deacon Eugene and our parish community.
The walk ended on a poignant note when we reached St Andrew's, whose vicar, Fa
ther Andrew Stone, had recently died. We joined together in prayer for his family and parishioners and for a worthy successor to be found to continue his work in the parish and the community.
St Joachim parishioners organised a St George's Day celebration comprising a fish and chip supper followed by English songs and a game of bingo.
East Sussex Life Group continues to meet regularly at Christ The King. Great concern has been expressed at the content of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill now before parliament and local MPs have been contacted both directly and through postcards by members of the group and those in the wider parish community voicing these concerns. J Carmody, Royal Parade, Eastbourne.
