10/05/08: Entertaining governance, albeit expensive

The continuing parking debacle as being played out in the town centre is, if nothing else, a costly exercise without any apparent benefit to anyone.
It was rather misguided of the Lib Dems to give some voters the idea they could stop the parking arrangements now being laboriously implemented. The power of decisions on these matters to do with traffic and roads is not a local borough matter but on
e exercised on a county level. One might not like that condition but that is the status quo.
Whatever is done someone is going to have to pay, either those who use cars and park, or the cost is spread more thinly on those who do not park, whether they drive or not, throughout Eastbourne area by way of tax.
While this mess is being sorted, which the people of Eastbourne are going to have to pay for to some measure, we have NCP wardens aimlessly sticking warning notices on illegally parked vehicles that few people take any notice of.
That may I say must not give them much job satisfaction.
Anyway, well done local leaders for bringing us any example of governance so entertaining, albeit expensive.

Veracity,

Heathfield 12/05/2008 20:42:34
Wrong! Where is it writ that we motorists shall be robbed blind for the pleasure of using what has become an essential tool in life? We already pay tax on tax to, among other things, have the law enforced.
