So on the day prior to the local elections being held elsewhere in the country we see the true colours of the Liberal Democrat councillors emerging.
Far from supporting the campaign to save our local hospital services they have decided en bloc not to support the gesture made by Conservative councillors to allocate the total councillors' small community projects fund to the cause. Since when did t
his issue become a party political one anyway?
What a difference a year makes. Last year when they were urging us to elect them, we had promises regarding the parking situation in the town, saving the maternity unit and other services at DGH, and also pledges on council tax.
In each and every case they have capitulated and pulled back, preferring to blame anyone but themselves for broken promises.
In this latest case they had a perfect opportunity to show where their hearts lie – clearly this is not with anything other than self-interest. One wonders if this decision would have been made if each and every one of them were up for re-election this year. – CA Jackson, Milton Road, Eastbourne.

Veracity,

Heathfield 07/05/2008 10:13:05
I suggest that the very reason they don't want to contribute to the DGH fund is that they are protecting Council Tax payer's money. Experience with Parking, Royal Mail and Post Office 'consultations' has exposed them as a sham, the cost cutting or revenue generating decisions having already been made. It's all down to a Government that wastes billions, and fails to govern for the benefit of the people of this country.
