EASTBOURNE war hero Joseph Townsend and television presenter David Dimbleby will be the special guests and judges at a chrity dog and horse show being held to raise cash for Help the Heroes and the Red Cross next month.
The Golden Cross Equestrian Centre off the A22 is hosting the charity event on Sunday August 3.
Money raised at the event will raise cash for Help the Heroes, the Red Cross and has been organised by Joseph's aunt, Helen Carter.
She said, "The inspiration for the day is my very brave nephew Joe, who lost both his legs while serving in Helmand Province in Afghanistan as a Royal Marine.
"Joe is a local lad who was born and bred in Eastbourne and attended Ratton School and all he had ever wanted to do from an early age was to join the forces.
"He has spent nearly five months in Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham and has recently moved to Headley Court Rehabilitation centre in Surrey. I hope Joe will be able to join us for a few hours on this fundraising day with representatives from Headley Court.
"Help for Heroes helps all service personnel injured while serving with Her Majesty's forces and the main aim at present is to raise enough money to build a much needed swimming pool and gymnasium at Headley Court which will help with the recuperation of all our unsung heroes.
"The Red Cross has helped in Joe's case by enabling his mother Debi to remain at his bedside in Birmingham providing accommodation, transport and more importantly being a shoulder to cry on and moral support during this really difficult time.
"Both organisations have and will play a big part in Joe's future and deserve our support. I have had huge support to run this event with sponsorship and services and want to say a big thank you to everyone that has helped. we want people to come and join us to raise money for these wonderful causes."
The clear round showjumping and dog show events both start at 9.30am with entry fees £1. Terrier racing is at 1pm and there will also be an equine boot fair from 1pm with pitches available at £10 by prior booking.
