ANOTHER firm with ambitions to build in Hailsham has announced major job cuts.
Redrow Homes will shed 550 jobs and close two of its 10 offices as part of cost-cutting measures as the effect of the credit crunch takes hold.

It admitted it would be reviewing the value of land it owns which is not yet in development.

This could affect the controversial plans for Dunbar Drive, where Redrow has permission to build 40 new homes on land next to Grovelands School. It also owns land earmarked for housing in Battle Road.

Redrow called the sharp decline in the housing market 'unprecedented'.

Last week, two other firms with their eyes on large areas of Hailsham and Hellingly made massive job cuts.

Persimmon, which owns the Hellingly Hospital site, announced it had made 1,100 of its staff redundant while Taylor Wimpey, which plans to build the 460 homes at Welbury and Woodholm Farms, said it would have to cut 900 jobs.
