IMPRESSIVE front gardens are to be awarded prizes in a competition designed to drive up the floral standards in Hailsham.
Residents can put forward their own gardens or nominate a neighbour or friend's for the competition, which is part of the preparations for the town's bid for South and South East In Bloom.
Environment Hailsham has been running the front garden com
petition since its formation in 1990 but this year the award will be judged by the town council's South and South East In Bloom sub-committee.
This includes representatives from organisations such as Hailsham Horticultural Society, Grovelands Primary School, Town Farm Residents Association and Firstfields Day Centre.
Organisers hope the competition will inspire residents into creating beautiful front gardens
Cllr Mary Rowe, chair of Environment Hailsham, said, "We hope to encourage people in Hailsham to show others what outstanding gardens can be achieved with the right dedication and hard work."
The closing date for entries is Saturday June 7 and judges will be visiting the shortlisted front gardens the following week.
Three winners will receive trophies at a presentation on June 21.
If you want more information or wish to enter yourself or a friend or neighbour, with their permission, call Lorraine at Hailsham Town Council on 841702.
This will be the first year Hailsham has entered the prestigious South and South East In Bloom competition.
The town has been entered into the 'large town' category, for places with a population of between 12,000 and 35,000, alongside Chichester, East Grinstead, Faversham, Haywards Heath, Littlehampton and Sittingbourne.
The competition's judges will be visiting the town on July 4.
