PLANS for a new all-weather sports pitch in Herstmonceux appear to have been knocked into touch after planners recommended that the scheme be turned down.

East Sussex County Council's planning committee meets this morning (Wednesday) to discuss the plan which they have been told to refuse on the basis it is too close to homes, breaches planning guidelines and ignores the possibilty of siting it elsew
here.
The scheme would see the all-weather pitch built on the border of the village recreation ground near the bowls club and close to the school.
However, a report to councillors said that Sport England recommended that such facilities should be at least 30m away from homes whereas the closest house to the prososed site in Park View is just 16m.
Local residents sent in 25 letters of complaint saying it was too close to homes and would attract antisocial behaviour.
The council report says the applicant – which is the council's Children's Services Department – has discounted other possible sites on the recreation ground including the old tennis courts and the current skateboard park.
In summary the report to councillors says, "The application site is in very close proximity to the residential properties on Park View which would have a detrimental effect on local residents in terms of noise and disturbance.
"The applicant has not sought to mitigate the negative impact on adjacent residential amenity or its sensitive setting through alternative site location."
