HAILSHAM PCSOs are the latest weapon in the war against speeding drivers.
The community support officers are now trained to use speed trap devices and are targeting areas of the town where residents feel speed is an issue.

These include five of the town's major roads — Battle Road, Ersham Road, South Road, Gleneagles Drive and Hawks Road.

Sgt Ruth Hammerton said, "Unlike the Road Policing Unit, the PCSOs will not be restricted to 'accident hot spots' but can and do check areas where local people feel issues exsist.

"Currently we are concentrating on Battle Road, Ersham Road, South Road, Gleneagles Drive and Hawks Road."

The PCSOs are also clamping down on illegal parking and regularly issue tickets where appropriate. They also patrol the local schools at dropping off and picking up time after complaints from residents.

Veracity,

Heathfield 21/07/2008 11:03:41
Wrong priorities again! Hailsham Road, Heathfield and Ersham Road, Hailsham have always been speed trap targets. Just look at the misnamed Sussex Safety Camera website where they warn you where the cameras will be operating in the coming week! Why these two roads? They are long and straight and very good revenue raisers! How about doing something really useful and having a 24/7 beat presence in the town centre? No revenue raised of course, but a real help to those of us who are heartily sick of the antics of a minority of Hailsham youth.
