A motorist appeared in court on Wednesday after parking his vehicle in an area that is prohibited.
Gholamreca Cham, 56, of Meadowlands Avenue, was slapped with a fixed penalty notice after a Police Community Support Officer saw the vehicle parked unattended on a grassy area on double yellow lines in Hailsham.

Eastbourne magistrates heard that r
esidents had complained of similar incidents in the area.

Cham, who pleaded guilty to prohibited waiting with a motor vehicle, represented himself at court.

He said, "My argument would be over the parking with the car.

"There were no signs being displayed there saying it is illegal to park the car there.

"I find out it's illegal to park on the grass and tried to send a cheque but this was returned and I was told it would have to go to court.

"If there were signs there people wouldn't make these kind of mistakes."

Magistrates heard the grass verge is at the side of a road and that double yellow lines would have to be crossed to get there.

They told Cham they were convinced the area was not a parking area.

They fined him £30 and told him to pay £35 costs and a £15 surcharge.
