A MAN stole eight cans of lager and two tubes of crisps from a petrol garage in Hailsham.
Andrew Ryan Pettit, of the Diplocks, walked out of the BP garage in South Road on June 22 without paying for the items, which cost less than £10.

The 28-year-old pleaded guilty to the theft when he appeared before magistrates in Eastbourne on Wednesday.

Jeremy King, prosecuting, said, "The defendant was seen to go to the back of the store and take eight cans of Carling and two tubes of Pringles and put them in a black bag.

"He walked out of the garage making no attempt to pay for the items."
Pettit was arrested by police eight days later and he made a full confession.

David Alexander, defending, said Pettit had not offended since May 2007.
Magistrates gave him an 18-month conditional discharge, ordered him to pay £60 costs and £9.58 compensation to the garage.
