BAT boxes have finally been installed at a housing development in Hailsham - three years after they were due to be built.
The boxes were supposed to have been put in at Garrett Court in Vicarage Lane before construction work took place on the 30 apartments.
Permission for the sheltered flats was granted in March 2005 - but developers McCarthy and Stone only informed
the district council last month they had completed the work.
Concerned resident Stanley Welfare, of Stringwalk, said he had first asked Wealden District Council about the lack of bat boxes in May 2007.
He said he continued to press for the council to act before being told earlier this year work was being done.
He added, "If I hadn't mentioned it to the council, would the boxes have been put in?"
Wealden District Council confirmed it had recieved complaints from residents and had looked into the matter.
A spokesman for McCarthy and Stone told the Gazette the work was completed last month.
He added, "The bat boxes take the form of a cavity in the roof space with access on the north-east elevation.
"They are not easy to see from the ground because they do not protrude like hung boxes.
"We notified the council last month that the work is complete and they seem perfectly happy with the arrangement."
