GREEN-FINGERED members of the team which helped Hailsham win silver in this year's South and South East In Bloom have themselves been honoured.
The competition organisers awarded certificates to those who made a significant contribution to Hailsham's entry.

They included bid team leader and deputy mayor Jeff Bentley-Astor and Environment Hailsham stalwart Janet Simes.

Grovelands School was honoured after its pupils designed murals to brighten up the town's recycling sites, Firstfields Day Centre was given a certificate for its efforts while Chalvington Barns was thanked for being main sponsors.

Christine Simms, who won the competition to find the best front garden in Hailsham, was also recognised.

Work on the 2009 entry began in earnest on Wednesday as the team discussed the 2008 result and the judges' comments.

Cllr Bentley-Astor said, "We now have a very high standard to improve upon in next year's competition.

"In 2009 we should be aiming for at least a 'silver gilt' which is well within our reach."
