Youngsters urged to dig
out wildlife photographs
for national competition
BUDDING David Bellamys are being encouraged to get snapping and submit their pictures of local wildlife to a national competition.
The RSPB’s Wildpix competition, which opens this week, is looking for youngsters across Eastbourne to take advantage of the bounty of wildlife on the town’s doorstep and enter the national challenge, which has seen the bird charity team up with the British Wildlife Photography Awards.
Don Fuller, RSPB youth officer for the Eastbourne area, said, “Photography is a great way to get kids interested in nature and wildlife.
“When you look at things through a lens it really focuses the eye and you see things in a totally different light.
“East Sussex has some wonderful countryside and coastline but even if you live in the town and have a park or river nearby you can see all sorts of wildlife.”
The competition is open to all young people across two age categories: under 12s and 12-18 year olds.
The subject matter can be anything from marine life and animal behaviour to creepy crawlies and urban wildlife.
Winners will get some cash prizes of £300 in the under 12s category and £500 for 12-18s and their work will be displayed in a planned book – with the best shots showcased in an exhibition that will tour UK galleries.
