Trevor's Week - 23 January 2008
On Sunday we had a number of foxes to deal with. The first was a fox reported to be caught in a fence in Seaford. On arrival the fox was able to move around quite a bit.
The lady who called us thought the fox was caught by its leg but on closer inspection it was caught round its body.
The fox had attempted to crawl under some chain link fencing and in the process it had become entangled in some coils of wire which had been left on the ground. Luckily the fox was not injured at all but just confused as to how to untangle himself. However, as rescuers prepared a cage and equipment for the rescue, the fox managed to free himself and run off at speed.
The next call was for a road casualty fox at Denton, Newhaven. The fox had been hit by a vehicle but was still mobile. A couple of local residents reported the fox as running around but disorientated, unable to walk or run in a straight line. Once on site rescuers could not find the fox even after spending more than an hour searching the streets.
A call was recieved about a fox curled up on the roof of a wooden greenhouse in Peacehaven. The fox was reported as having a possible injured leg and mange. Rescuers attended on site but as they approached the fox was very alert and quickly stood up and ran off using all its legs fine. There was a patch of bald skin on one rear leg but it not look like mange. Other calls for foxes have come from Eastbourne and Brighton too.
A dead dolphin was reported on the beach at Brighton over the weekend. The sad creature was a common dolphin which had injuries to its jaw and body and had been dead for sometime.
There have a high number of dead badgers on the road over the past week, they are obviously moving about a lot, so please be careful when driving at night and slow down a bit.
