Adopt with confidence, says cat rehoming team

A CAT rehoming charity is trying to improve people’s confidence in the animal adoption process after becoming inundated with moggies needing new families.
Cats Protection’s Eastbourne centre has introduced an ‘adopt with confidence’ pledge so that prospective owners can be confident that any cat adopted from the charity has benefited from the highest standards of care.
This comes at a time when more pets than ever are being given up due to the economic climate, which has put a massive strain on the Eastbourne group. Some owners who have lost their jobs simply can’t afford to keep their cats or have had to move into rented accommodation where pets are not allowed, so the charity has found itself dealing with more unwanted cats than ever before.
“In these difficult times, we are encouraging people to come to us as their first port of call when looking for a new pet, as we have lots of healthy, affectionate cats that would really benefit from a loving home,” the charity’s Mandy Clarke explained.
“Owners adopting from Cats Protection have the peace of mind that their cat will have been examined by a veterinary surgeon, microchipped, vaccinated, neutered if old enough and will also come with four week’s free insurance.
“We provide these benefits and treatments so people don’t have to worry about them following adoption, which is a big plus for money-conscious owners.”
The centre is currently full of cute cats in need of a new home, including eight-year-old Boots (pictured).
A spokesman for the charity told the Herald, “Boots has a lot going for him. However some of his personality traits would mean that he is not suited to certain types of homes.
“He is an independent male who really does need his own space, he will choose attention if he wants it but because he can be temperamental he could not be homed with children and he isn’t keen on other animals so an adult only home please.
“Boots would love to be living in a house that has access to a garden because of his independence he would need this extra space and really is looking for that special person that will love him for who he is and allow him to live his own life how he wants to.
“He will give lots of love in return but his is not always able to show it as other cats do...he is special and needs a special home.”
