BBC SOUTH East newsreader Polly Evans popped into a St Wilfrid’s Hospice shop this week to help launch a new drive designed to make sure the charity gets the most out of donations.

The BBC presenter was the first person to sign up for a new Gift Aid scheme when she dropped off some clothes she had worn while on screen.

Under Gift Aid the charity can claim an extra 25p from the Government for every £1 raised by selling donated goods under the scheme.

With seven shops across the area the hospice is hopeful that this new scheme will raise vital funds to support its work and also encourage more residents to donate goods.

The charity accepts good quality clean clothing, bric-a-brac and furniture, with the proceeds going directly towards supporting patients and providing free hospice care.

Duncan Adams from the hospice said, “The gift aid scheme is really easy to sign up to and we hope will raise much needed additional income to allow us to extend our reach.

“I would like to invite local residents to come and donate goods and sign up to the scheme today.”
