Mayor’s Mad March

A MANIC month lies ahead as Seaford’s mayor gets set to rally around the town to boost funds for charity.

The Mayor’s Mad March Marathon has already seen several traders and groups get in on the act by organising a fashion show, quiz, charity opening night for next month.

A mayor’s ball will also form part of the fun and it is hoped that as much as possible will be raised for Seaford-based charity WAVES.

The organisation is the chosen charity of Seaford mayor, Councillor Linda Wallraven, who will be attempting to attend each fundraiser in March.

Earlier this year the Bishopstone resident wrote to businesses and organisations asking them to pick a date in March and host an event.

Cllr Wallraven said, “It’s not only about raising money it’s the awareness.

“People don’t realise there’s this support group in the town where they can go to.

“We need these funds to keep these charities going.”

Seaford Chamber of Commerce is hosting its own business breakfast on March 1 and on Saturday March 3 Seahaven Lioness Club is hosting a quiz night at St Thomas More Church.

Seaford Musical Theatre Juniors will be getting in on the action on Wednesday March 7 with a performance of ‘Carry On Up The Beanstalk’.

A fashion show, football match and buffet and dance night are also lined up.

The fundraising month will be celebrated with an exhibition of photos, media and winning art works from March on display at Arts@the Crypt Gallery in Church Street on Friday April 6.

This will end with a mayoral reception in the evening for event organisers and the winners of the art competition, where the total raised will be announced.

For more information call Seaford Town Council on 894870 or Cllr Wallraven on 899486.
