FORMER Eastbourne Carnival Queen of 1971 Jayne Jewson takes a stroll down Memory Lane with these pictures.

Jayne, who was Jayne Ball back then, headed the carnival procession in 1971 and was also Miss Eastbourne in 1972.

She says she had “such fun” being carnival queen.

“The summer of 1971 was scorching hot and the carnival procession was huge with the carnival queen riding on a horse and carriage,” said Jayne, who lives in Belmore Road. “I met lots of interesting people.”

After her stint as carnival queen, Jane had a career in modelling in London along with acting and promotional work. She travelled to east Africa and returned to live in Eastbourne with her husband Bob and pet of 35 years, Percy the parrot.

Jayne is pictured with her carnival princesses. If you are one of the carnival princesses, share your memories with us at Eastbourne Herald, Berkeley House, 26 Gildredge Road, Eastbourne, BN21 4SA.
