CARNIVAL fever swept across Eastbourne during the summers as these photographs of days gone by show.

They were sent in by reader Amanda Bignell, who together with her husband Brian, used to run Ambria and Connaught House in Pevensey Road.

The bed and breakfast was decorated with bunting and flags to mark Carnival Week in the town and Mrs Bignell has also sent in some pictures of the floats put together by the Eastbourne Hotels Association as they were lining up at the start of the procession in King Edward’s Parade.

Among those in the photographs are Mr and Mrs Bignell, their daughter Ann Holmes, Louis Hughes, Pat Bacon and Trish Mandell.

Do you have any photographs or memories of the carnival in years gone by?

If so, we would love to see them. Send them to Carnival Memories, Eastbourne Herald, Berkeley House, 26 Gildredge Road, Eastbourne, BN21 4SA, or e mail them to eastbourne.herald@trbeckett.co.uk
