Members of the Odyssey Society

A NEW society for tourism students will soon be joining forces with local businesses and Eastbourne Borough Council to help shape the town’s tourist industry in the future.

The Odyssey Society at the University of Brighton, which boasts more than 100 members, will be carrying out fact-finding visits to tourism businesses, giving input at marketing meetings and producing their own tourism video.

Members will get to learn more about the business of tourism, and gain some valuable experience, while getting creative with useful feedback and new ideas for Eastbourne.

The society launched officially last month, and plans are now underway for a series of visits next term, include a fact finding visit at Eastbourne Tourist Information Centre.

Students will also be invited to marketing meetings to discover more about the design process for brochures, websites and advertising campaigns, and opportunities will be available for students to get hands on at events.

The society will produce a monthly newspaper for its members available on campus and online, and a key project for next term will also be a new promotional video by students, which will appear on the VisitEastbourne.com website in 2013. The Odyssey Society is also working with the National Trust, the Grand Hotel and the University of Brighton’s Development and Alumni Department.
