Down Your Way: Stone Cross, Westham and Hankham - May 16

LOOKING back just one year a new community transport service was started for those inhabitants of the civil parishes of Westham and Pevensey in need of safe public passenger services.

The Westham and Pevensey Local Transport Partnership (WPLTP) were able to celebrate a successful first year by holding a tea party at Sharnfold Farm.

Members shared stories of why it was good and good fun, to be a passenger, driver, director and deal with passengers over the phone.

The Tuesday and Wednesday Rover 6 is a brilliant service, public transport for those who live too far from normal commercial bus routes. Like a good neighbour it takes people, across Westham, Pevensey, Stone Cross, Beachlands, Langney and Hailsham.

A dedicated team of volunteers make this possible. They are local people, unpaid volunteers, who drive the bus, explain the service over the phone, take bookings, and ensure it operates to the high standards required of any public transport operation.

More people volunteering could give it an even better edge. More information on www.wpltp.co.uk or call Joyce Richards on 763344

THE Eastbourne Blind Society will host a Choral Concert in St Luke’s Church, Stone Cross, on Friday, May 18, starting at 7.30pm.

THERE is an added attraction at Stone Cross Mill on Sunday, May 27, as the Trust has organised a craft fair. There will be several stalls: handmade jewellery, the chance to replace that disintegrating bird box and buy some young plants all ready for the garden.

Pam, the Button Lady, who works wonders with any button she can get hold of, handknitted toys sold on behalf of Mill funds and general knitted wear from Carol and a lady who makes the most marvellous shopping bags.

Naturally, of course, Mill souvenirs will be available as well as flour and guided tours will also be given.
