Down Your Way: Stone Cross, Westham and Hankham - April 11
THE NEXT production by the Haven Players is “Happy Families” by John Godber. On his graduation day, John looks back over his teenage years recalling all the embarrassments, tensions, joys and sorrows of family life.
As he grows older and becomes better educated, he feels less comfortable with his working-class family who cannot understand his growing intellect and theatrical aspirations. Full of warmth, understanding and humour, “Happy Families” paints an affectionate and appealing portrait of one ordinary family struggling with change, bereavement and the generation gap. The play will be on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 19, 20 and 21, 7.30pm. Tickets from the Box Office on 01323 460174 - adults £7, student/children £4.
I SPENT a very enjoyable evening last Saturday at the Music Night organised by St Luke’s Church. The opening number came from a “new” group FONO (For One Night Only) who travelled around the world in song, making sure the audience joined in as appropriate.
Several local talents were on show, including Glenn, Jon, Matt, Andy, Beth – she who had trouble with her heels – and not forgetting Father James and Chloe who duetted on the piano and trumpet.
Father James, known for his trumpet playing , was pleased to welcome Jack Hodge, who had brought along his trumpet and completely unscheduled, the two played a duet to the applause of the audience. Guests at the evening were a young couple, Shona and Matt, who are very well known in the Walford area of London – just watch the closing credits next time the programme is on. The whole of the evening was very entertaining, ably put together by Edna a past master at these things. A very enjoyable evening and well supported.

LOOK OUT those western shirts and boots and moosey along to Westham Village Hall on Saturday, April 14, where a Barn Dance will be in full swing. AT A recent at Hankham School assembly the whole school, together with parents, was treated to a performance from Drumming Club members who showed off the skills they have acquired over the past few weeks (under the tutelage of Mrs Alison) and they gave a really fantastic performance. The Easter Fair proved a big success. The weather was very kind and lots of people turned out and enjoyed a lovely morning. Thanks to all who came along and helped or supported the event, especially Jan Henderson, the Friends Committee, staff and other volunteers. They raised a wonderful profit of £558.00 for the Friends funds.
