ST AGNES Church Social Group meets in the hall, Whitley Road, this afternoon (Wednesday) at 2pm. All are welcome.

ESK Gardening Club meets tomorrow (Thursday) when master florist Lucy Piper talks about plants that provide an abundance of flowers for cutting. She will also demonstrate how to extend their life once in a vase.

The Gardening Club is free to join and meets every Thursday in the summer, usually 5.30pm-8pm, when there are a variety of talks, demonstrations and workshops. Experts are on hand to answer gardening queries. Members also receive a 10% discount on plants.

FATHER Giles Harcourt celebrates the 40th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood at a service on Sunday, June 24, at Christ Church, starting 10.30am. All who know Fr Giles are welcome to attend to make this a special occasion.

THE NHS Retirement Fellowship meets on Thursday, June 28, at the Blind Society Centre in Longstone Road, 2pm. The group is for anyone who has worked in any area of the medical profession within the NHS, and their spouse or partner. For more details call Hazel on 483454.

FILM FORUM next meets in the vestry of Christ Church on Friday, June 29, at 7pm when a full-length feature film starring Robin Williams will be shown, followed by a short general discussion. The cost is £2 per person. Due to licensing restrictions the title of the film cannot be advertised, but details can be obtained on 749653.

A ROYAL Quiz Night will be held in St Augustine’s Hall of Christ Church on Saturday, June 30, starting 7.30pm. There will be rounds about the Queen, plus news events and prominent people throughout Her Majesty’s life and reign. Tickets, £8 adults and £4 children, include a supper of pizza and salad, followed by ice cream. To book, call Meg on 487229.

THE Olympic torch passes through Eastbourne on Tuesday, July 17, and there are still a few places left for an Olympic afternoon tea in the conservatory restaurant at the Langham Hotel, served from 3pm, with a grandstand view of the flame as it passes the hotel at approximately 3.40pm. To book, call 731451 as soon as possible. An Olympic Lunch for that day, with speaker Peter Pyemont, is already fully booked, but you can be added to a waiting list in case there are any cancellations.
