A FEW folk from Eastbourne Local History Society recently visited the Salvation Army Citadel at Pevensey Road, where they were given a guided tour and a talk by Major David Squirrell.
He said how William Booth, with his wife Catherine and son Branwell, left the Methodist church in Derby and moved to London’s East End, where he and his family helped the poor of the district and started up the organization we now know as the Salvation Army
