Down Your Way: Langney and Shinewater - April 18

YOUR Shinewater Neighbourhood Panel is making its way to the Hub in Lavender Close next week. Be there on Wednesday, April 25, from 5.30pm to hear from the district’s important figures and find out what’s happening in your area. Feel free to have your say too...

IT’S the penultimate game for Eastbourne Borough Football Club on Saturday in the Blue Square South. Hopefully not the second-to-last game we’ll play in this league though as we aim for survival. Beating opposition Basingstoke Town away should ensure this. The match kicks off at 3pm.

TO MARK St George’s Day this year Langney Sports in Priory Lane host a special St Georges Quiz and Karaoke on Saturday (April 21). The fun starts at 8pm. For more information on Eastbourne Borough FC or the sports club, visit www.ebfc.co.uk or call 01323 766265.

HI’YAH! Not hello, I mean the Karate shout. Never mind. If you don’t want to face the chop, why not join Karate Sessions at the one and only Langney Community Centre?

Children’s sessions take place 4pm-5pm on Wednesdays (so there’s no excuse to miss out as they’ll be back in time for Blue Peter!).

The chances are you’ll learn some valuable self-defence lessons, great discipline, a bucket load of confidence and maybe you’ll make some good friends too.

But only if you play nice. No eye-gauging! Visit www.matsubayashi-ryu.org.uk for more details or ring Sally on 461694 or 07853 304405.

YOU MAY remember in previous columns my mentioning of the Kabubbu Project, in Uganda. Bishop Bell are thrilled to announce BBC Presenter, Peter-Owen Jones will speak at the school in Priory Road on Thursday, May 10, from 7.30pm, to help raise awareness and funds for the trip. Peter has travelled the world making programmes for the BBC and he will have some great tales to tell. Tickets are available from reception for just £10.

I MUST mention this next hair-raising article. Bishop Bell School is reminding pupils they should not have extreme artificial colouring in their own hair. Due to a number of issues with students experiencing unsightly reactions to hair dye as of late, the school is concerned over this. Please remind your children of the school’s uniform policy (page 130 of their homework diaries).

YEAR 10 students have been busy taking over businesses in the town from Causeway School recently. Pupils have been spending time on work experience visits with a variety of employers. Positive feedback has been greatly received.

FINALLY, don’t forget next week’s Langney Area Panel Meeting. It’s on Thursday, April 26, from 6pm at Langney Resource Centre in Etchingham Road (opposite Langney Community Centre). You can pop in from 5pm for a coffee and a chat if you fancy it.
