Down Your Way: Langney and Shinewater - April 11

FIRST of all, I must mention a certain documentary film making course on the horizon.

Run by me and in association with Street Learning and Sussex Downs College, a number of lucky young people will get the chance to join a FREE course in learning how to write, shoot, edit and deliver a documentary film of their own, on a subject affecting Eastbourne.

The group starts next Monday (April 16) and runs for eight weeks, 10am-2pm. Call 01323 436436 to book or contact me by email or phone on the details above for more information. Places are limited and attendees need to be over 19 years old. Action!

LANGNEY Community Centre isn’t being left out on freebies. They’re providing activities on a Tuesdays, 6pm-8pm for teenagers from 13-18 years. If you fancy cooking up a storm in the kitchen, being crafty in the arts section, acting in the drama group or mixing things up during a DJ session, give Jacy a call on 01323 746337.

LANGNEY Area Panel’s monthly meeting brought a packed room as I arrived during a very warm summer’s day in March. And the atmosphere was hot inside too, mainly as there was much talk about the budget.

Paul Atkinson was in attendance from Eastbourne Homes to talk through this while Jackie Spencer and Ann Todd came along from Sussex Self Help to propose a new set of Mental Health Courses for the area.

Kirsty Peckham spoke about her new role of community initiator. She is now responsible for Street Learning and has also been pushing the responsible dog ownership scheme. The dog tagging exercises have been a success more to follow in this field.

The panel’s AGM is proposed for week starting July 12.

Deena Mallows joined the meeting and spoke about bollards. Parking space bollards were on the agenda and it seems unanimous that they are impractical. A consultation will be sought in view of removal.

The next meeting is on Thursday April 26, at 6pm, as always, from Langney Resource Centre. Get there from 5pm and you can have a chinwag with a coffee.

EASTBOURNE Borough Football Club’s fight for survival in the Blue Square South sees a vital match against Hampton and Richmond at Priory Lane. We last played them away in November, where we lost 3-1. 3pm is kick off and you can purchase tickets by visiting www.ebfc.co.uk or calling 01323 766265.

THE Shinewater Neighbourhood Panel hosts its next meeting shortly. Pop along to The Shinewater Hub in Lavender Close (on Shinewater Field) on Wednesday, April 25, at 5.30pm to hear about the latest goings on in the district.
