Down Your Way: Hellingly and Horsebridge - May 23

SUNDAY SERVICES at Hellingly church are Holy Communion at 8am and again at 10.45am. Evensong is at 6.30pm. Upper Dicker has Holy Communion at 9.15am

BONSAI Club members enjoyed another busy evening in May and were updated with the latest plans for their important Annual Show before everyone started work on their trees many of which were being prepared for showing. Experienced members were only too willing to give advice and help. The Eastbourne and Wealden Bonsai Club Annual Show is at Stone Cross Memorial Hall on June 16 from 10am to 3pm.

The new website is now up and running. Visit www.eandwbonsaiclub.co.uk for more information or telephone Ian (01424) 437262.

JUBILEE celebrations in Hellingly are organised and everybody is very excited. Professional photographer Marie Stone is exhibiting some of her work in Hellingly village hall. At the same time amateur photographers are invited to contribute their own work of local scenes.

The Diamond Jubilee celebrations are taking place in the adjacent field on Monday June 4 from 12 noon to 4pm. Council Chairman David White will open the proceedings with a Loyal Toast. The Harmonie Concert Band will entertain picnickers in Jubilee mode. Table arrangements will be royally decorated and there is a prize for the best one judged by Cllr White. Hellingly School Children will sing and the Scouts will lay on fun and games for all youngsters. Maypole dancing can be “given a go” to see who gets knotted and there will be a tug-o-war for a right royal pull of strength. A beer tent and icecreams will add to the Bank Holiday fun.

PCSOs Faye Fletcher and Iain Tomsett went to Anglesey Avenue on April 11 along with a Speed Indicator Device and monitored the traffic speed going through the estate. The SID is calibrated at 30mph and when a car approaches it will tell them what speed it is doing followed by a smiley face or an unhappy face. The PCSOs were there between 3.27pm and 4.15pm and the results were that of the 38 cars that passed the speeds ranged between 21 and 34mph of which 9 were over 30mph.

At this time this is just recorded as a speed. If the speed was over 36mph then their details would have been taken and then submitted to Op Crackdown. This is the Association of Chief Police Officer’s regulations national guidelines.
