Down Your Way: Hampden Park and Willingdon Trees - April 18
HAVE you purchased tickets for the Underground Productions Amateur Theatre Company’s new play to be performed on Thursday, April 19, Friday, April 20, and Saturday, April 21, at the Hampden Park Community Hall in Brodrick Road?
The entertaining comedy Ladies Who Lunch by Tudor Gates is directed by Mandy Lloyd, with Gill Ayres, Ann Young and Dee Sharpe playing the main roles. It is well worth seeing, to book call 412357 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
A TREAT this coming weekend for all art lovers - there is an exhibition of art and wood carving at the Outdoor Bowls Club in the park, on Saturday, April 21, and Sunday, April 22, from 10am to 4.30pm. More than 200 paintings covering oil, water colour and acrylics, will be on show, together with a number of fascinating wood carvings. This is part of the Eastbourne Arts and Cultural Festival 2012, and coffee and tea will be available.
WE NOW have our very own Hampden Park Royal Family! The Easter Sunday Fun Day in Hampden Park was a huge success in spite of the weather, and Jayne Brooks welcomed allto the Rugby Club to keep dry and warm. A carnival king and queen were chosen, together with a prince and princess.
Now all they need is a vehicle suitable for their regal status, to take part in the Eastbourne Carnival Procession. If any readers have a large open-topped car, or a horse and carriage, -let me know and I will pass on the details to the organisers.
Not only was the ‘royal’ side of the Fun Day a success, but also a massive Easter Egg Hunt (for which the rain stopped and the sun shone!) and there were Easter Bonnets in abundance, with the whole proceedings being overseen by the Easter Bunny himself, much to the delight of the many children.
THE FIRST of the new Tuesday Healthy Walks in the park was extremely well attended, and the weather was kind. This is part of the national Walking for Health programme, designed to get people of all ages and abilities to enjoy a gentle walk in pleasant surroundings.
It takes place every Tuesday, meeting at the Lakeside Cafe 11.30am and lasts an hour. Details from Paula Hubens, BTCV Healthy Walks Project Officer on 07740 899559 or go to email@example.com
I HAVE been asked by Eastbourne’s chief librarian to give readers details of a very important survey which could affect the services many appreciate from the Hampden Park Library. The County Council has put out a survey to discover the opinions of residents regarding how local libraries are run, and how they could possibly be improved. This survey can be done on line, at www.eastsussex.gov.uk or you can pick up a paper copy at Hampden Park Library. It takes less than ten minutes to complete, and your input is vital for the future of local Libraries.
HAVE YOU started to titivate your front garden ready for the Hampden Park in Bloom Best Front Garden competition this summer? The chairman informs me several entries have already come in, and anyone who still requires an entry form can obtain one from the Hampden Park Community Centre in Brodrick Road, the Hampden Park Library or from 66 Attfield Walk. Judging will take place in late July and early August.
A Hampden Park reader says her husband received a phone call purporting to be from a computer company, telling him there was a fault with his computer. This is a scam which has reared its head before, and the caller attempts to get personal details from you.
The reader quickly hung up and rang the police on 101, who were pleased to receive the information. Please be aware of this scam, and alert your friends and neighbours.
