Comedians help raise £2,000 for the Children’s Respite Trust

A COMEDY night has raised more than £2,000 for an Eastbourne charity which provides respite stays for local children.

Held at the York House Hotel, the event was held to generate cash for the Children’s Respite Trust and saw more than 100 people pack in for an evening of fun and fundraising.

The laughs came courtesy of headliner Simon Fox and compere Jim Grant as well as a string of supporting acts.

And as if that wasn’t enough, the night – which was sponsored by co-organisers MAK Property Worldwide – finished with an open mic session when audience members were invited to get up on stage and tell a few jokes of their own.

Gavin Fisher, chief executive of the Children’s Respite Trust, said, “We’re hugely grateful to everyone that came, to everyone that donated raffle prizes, to MAK Property for their sponsorship and, of course, to the excellent comedians themselves who were first class.

“It all made for a great night, which will make a real difference for disabled children and their families locally.”

A raffle on the evening included a mountain bike and rock-crawler remote control car from Abacus Flame, as well as a training session from Peter Lock Fitness, a bouquet from Breeze Flowers, comedy night tickets from Oi Oi Comedy and a stay at a hotel.

Derek Blaney from MAK said, “This has been a great way to raise funds for this very special charity, I am very grateful for everyone who came to support this event.

“I have had lovely comments back from guests who enjoyed the night, with many people asking when it can be repeated.

“I am sure we will be doing this again.”

The money raised will be used to fund a series of respite stays for disabled children locally.
