THE meeting this month was our strawberry fayre and potato competition.
Members enjoyed a quiz and strawberries and cream tea while the potato competition was judged.
There were a large number of entries this year. Members had been growing a potato in a 250mm pot since earlier in the year and the amount of potatoes produced were weighed.
The joint winners were Gill Cox and John Seviour with two pounds of potatoes each. The evening continued with Bingo and a raffle.
The monthly competition winners were: Vase of mixed flowers – Doris Hookham; Rose Hybrid Tea – Nancy Hookham; Roses Hybrid Tea – Gill Cox; Pot Plant in bloom – Gwen Seviour who also won Pot of African Violets and Foliage Plant; One cactus or succulent – Clive Medhurst; Floral Art, A miniature – Shirley Wynveldt.
Today (June 24) members will meet at Hillier Garden Centre, Stone Cross, at 10.30am to hear a talk on plants called If Only I Had One.
The meeting next month on July 6 has a talk by Kim Parks called Attracting Wildlife to your Garden to be held at St. Mary's Church Hall, Decoy Drive, Hampden Park at 7.30 pm.
All are welcome at any of our meetings. For further details phone 506447.
