The Eastbourne & District Cardiac Support Group held its monthly meeting at Victoria Baptist Church hall, Eldon Road.
Chairman Mavis Mower welcomed the members and the speaker Hilary Richards, a sister from the rehab department at the DGH. Her talk was entitled Looking After Your Heart. Hilary started by reminding us all of our intake of food, and suggesting that we
could use a smaller plate, to cut down on the food intake. Eating fibre adds bulk to your diet and fills you up with foods that are healthy for the heart; fibre is found in fruit, vegetables, beans and lentils, wholegrain bread and high fibre breakfast cereals. It has been noted that the supermarkets are labelling the contents of the ready meals, and Hilary told us just what to look for when you go shopping. Hilary, as always, gave a very interesting talk, and went on to explain how physical activity helps you lose weight and reduce high blood cholesterol levels. The chairman thanked Hilary very much for her informative and interesting talk, and the members thanked her in the usual way. The afternoon finished with tea and biscuits.
The next event is a special one being held at Victoria Baptist Church hall on the October 22 at 2.30pm Eldon Road. Guest entertainer will be Ray Campbell who came last year, and is back by popular demand. Ray plays an electric piano and is an all round
entertainer. His music is easy listening and his musicianship so professional. He brought along some CDs last year, and they went like hot cakes, he will make sure he brings along plenty this time. For just 50p entrance fee you will not find any better
entertainment in Eastbourne. His heading is Keynotes to Happiness and that just about sums him up. Any guests are welcome, the doors open at 2pm and Ray will start playing at 2.30pm. For more information telephone the secretary on 644448 – you will be made most welcome.
