Wednesday September 17 saw Giles Robinson chairing the humorous speech and topics competitions.
The evening kicked off in the right spirit with a warm-up session led by Dec Cluskey who invited everyone to tell a joke – but he made life easier by providing lots of material to work with.
The humorous speech competition was hard fought, but was u
ltimately won by Meg Heyworth with a speech entitled There once was a spider. All the club members entered the topics competition and this event was won by Linda Hardman. They will go on to represent the club at the area competition in Chichester.
The evening achieved the purpose of being entertaining and educational, and was a great showcase for the club.
A branch of Toastmasters International, the club has the aim to improve communication and listening skills amongst its members.
A regular club night allows members to practice their public speaking skills and receive feedback. The ability to speak confidently and competently in public is helpful is all aspects of life even if the individual is never called upon to speak publicly. A structured programme enables the novice to become a competent speaker and the more experienced presenter to become better.
The club meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at The Beachy Head Hotel, Beachy Head Road, Eastbourne, from 7.15-9.30pm. Guests are welcome without obligation. If you would like to know more about the club please see www.eastbournespeakers.org.uk or call Giles Robinson on 01424 773972.
