Meetings in September continued with a visit from Ted Goss, a local artist.
Ted told the ladies how his artistic talent was first spotted at Christchurch Infants' School and his first drawing was of a very simple boat, just like the others in his class. He progressed rapidly and demonstrated several of his watercolours, much admired by his audience. Ted now only uses oil for his paintings and many of his pictures were immediately recognised as local beauty spots and a bird always features, as one of his quirks. The speaker was inundated with questions, as he had generated real interest and Margaret Huggett moved a vote of thanks.
The last meeting of the month combined a bring and buy stall with a short talk by secretary Margaret about a re-enactment of a Chinese wedding that she attended, the bride being Chinese. The bride wore red, which is traditional in China and there were flowers on every chair and wonderful table decorations. The members enjoyed hearing about the very different customs. After tea, the stall was open and £40 was raised.
