Chalvington Barns is celebrating victory in a new stoolball league for local businesses.
Set up by OBC The Accountants, the new 50:50 league was launched as a fast and fun version of stoolball in the same way that 20:20 has given a new lease of life to cricket.
Eight local businesses paid a £50 entry fee for the season – £10 of which wi
ll go towards the Save the DGH campaign with the remainder paying for costs including prizes.
Chalvington Barns was the only team to win all its games and its success will be celebrated with a trophy handover at a celebration get together in September.
Runners-up were the Nat West Bank, followed by Ansvar and OBC The Accountants in joint third place.
Other teams who took part included Lawson Lewis, LFC Mainstay, Mayo Wynne Baxter and Cobb PR.
OBC director Mike Ogilvie said, "Despite some dodgy weather, everyone who took part had great fun and we have been approached by many other firms who wish to take part next year. In addition to some fantastic play, the food was superb, drink never wasted, there were no broken bones and only one dislocated finger. We'd like to thank all the teams who committed to the league and helped raise £80 for Save the DGH Campaign."
Next year the league will start in May 2009. Matches will be played at Selmeston.
