CANADIAN Kathy Taylor has crossed 'the Pond' to become the sales and marketing manager of the new Big Sleep Hotel in Eastbourne.
She made the transatlantic trip in March with her husband Gary, who has dual British and Canadian citizenship, and their one-year-old son Casey.
Gary, an estate agent, is originally from Eastbourne and Kathy worked at the town's Grand Hotel from 1996 to 2001 when she returned to Vancouver for a spell working in events management.
But after Casey was born, the couple decided they would rather he grew up in Eastbourne than on Canada's west coast and headed back to Britain.
Kathy, 38, said, "I love Eastbourne. To me it's the perfect combination of the seaside and a small town that's big enough to have a lot going on – and London and Brighton are just around the corner and Europe is on the doorstep.
"And, actually, being in Eastbourne I am closer to my parents who live in Vermont in the United States than I was when I lived in Vancouver."
Kathy, who was born in Montreal, is equally enthusiastic about the 50-bedroom Big Sleep, the third hotel in the stylish, budget-priced chain which has Hollywood star John Malkovich among its backers.
She said, "I like the concept of the hotel. It's fresh, new and different and something people will be happy to use."
